FOR years he has been the undisputed king of TV entertainment – creator of a number of ground-breaking shows loved by millions. But friends say Simon Cowell has this week crashed to an all-time low after a series of lurid stories in a bombshell book. Pals revealed the X Factor mogul has barely slept a wink all week and is struggling to come to terms with the fallout from the biography, which has caused a storm both here and in the States. He is also said to be furious that bosses at ITV – who have made millions of pounds out of his X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent shows – have shown little support. In an interview last night, Cowell said: “It’s not my habit to kiss and tell. I’ve never done it. I’ve always tried to keep my private life private, and it so unfortunate. “So I was feeling very embarrassed and not gentlemanly at all this week because it’s just not my style. “At the same time, the guy’s got the right to write the book he wants, but it has been uncomfortable, to be honest with you.” However, a close pal yesterday revealed that Cowell had in fact been plunged into a pit of despair by the revelations. He said: “Simon doesn’t recognise the person that has been portrayed this week. It’s simply not him. "He is feeling very low about this. He views it as one of the worst weeks of his entire life and he is hardly sleeping.” Storm: Simon's comments about his affair with Dannii have caused a frenzy PA Friends say Cowell – under pressure with X Factor underperforming in the States and BGT beaten in the ratings by The Voice in Britain – is now questioning his decision to co-operate with the book’s author Tom Bower. And even his own publicist Max Clifford has admitted it was a “mistake” to grant access to the controversial biographer. The book reveals how the star had a secret affair with Dannii Minogue, lusted after Cheryl Cole and viewed his engagement to Mezhgan Hussainy as a “mistake”. But Cowell, 52, claims he had no control over the biography – and is seething at what he sees as a “betrayal” by some of his associates. The pal went on: “This book clearly shows the extremes of Simon’s personality and Tom Bower is a renowned investigative journalist. "He’s putting Simon’s life out there warts and all and there’s nothing anyone can do to stop that, least of all Simon. “Simon may have spent some time with him but this writer has spoken to friends, colleagues – and enemies. "It’s not as if Simon has any control over any of that. This book was being written long before the writer ever even met Simon or before Simon even knew the book was happening. “The idea Simon would have initiated the disclosure of his relationship with Dannii to this writer is crazy.”
