AN Arizona man is planning to sue action star Steven Seagal, claiming his dog was killed in a raid on his home that was videotaped for the reality series Steven Seagal: Lawman.
Steven Seagal: Lawman follows the actor - a veteran of 1980s and 1990s action films such as Above the Law and Hard to Kill - as he performs his duties as a reserve deputy sheriff, TMZ reported today.
Jesus Sanchez Llovera alleges in a notice of claim that his 11-month-old puppy was shot and killed during a March 9 raid on his home in Laveen, Arizona - southwest of Phoenix - by Seagal and the Maricopa County Sheriff's Department (MCSD).
The MCSD reportedly raided Mr Llovera's home because they believed he was running an illegal cockfighting farm. Mr Llovera said he only raises the birds "for show" and the raid was "unfounded".
He said Seagal arrived at his home in a tank, backed up by a MCSD Tactical Operations Unit in riot gear. In addition to the puppy, he said more than 100 of his roosters were killed and "substantial damage" was done to his home.
He is asking for $US100,000 in damages and a formal written apology from Seagal to Mr Llovera's children "for the death of their 11-month old puppy, a beloved family pet".
Controversial Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is also named in the notice of claim, which is the first step toward a lawsuit.
